Forget Resolutions

Hello and happy new year loves!

The holidays are officially over and I don’t miss it, I never do. Is that bad? I ABSOLUTELY love the holidays, don’t get me wrong. Christmas, my mini Christmas break, family days, giving gifts, over-indulging, getting cozy in-front of the fire, going to my parents cabin…I could go on. I love it!! But when it’s all said and done, so am I. Especially with the new year approaching. I love new beginnings. I love change. I love when Mondays roll around, I love when Friday hits because I know it’s the weekend. I love when I get to flip my calendar to the next month. And I love New Years.

It’s a fresh start, a clean slate. Something about it gets me so excited.

I’m totally not a resolutions girl…never have been. Something about a resolution seems so permanent and unattainable. It’s setting yourself up for failure, because that’s what we do as humans, we fail, we aren’t perfect. And that’s OK.

SO…I set goals instead. Yesterday, Aaron and I sat down for a meeting, like an actual meeting we put into our calendars, scheduled a location and talked about our goals for the year.

We ordered everything bagels, because duh, it’s the best bagel, and talked about our future.

Anyways…I created a little agenda the night before regarding areas we might have specific goals for. Everything from improvements around the house, to financial goals. It was incredibly productive.

We have QUITE the list going and we keep adding more. I find it so inspiring!

Spoiler alert: I will not be sharing our list…sorry to disappoint! ;) I guess you’ll just have to hack into my Google Drive to see what the Shinns will be up to this year…KIDDING!

2017 Personal Goals

  1. Doing things that make me feel mentally and physically “well.”
  2. Listening to more Podcasts. I really got into a few last year and need more. (Please share your favs!)
  3. Reading more. Not an online article or magazine…an actual book.
  4. Get better at keeping up with the laundry and dishes.
  5. Continue to build and grow LCN. (Thanks to YOU for this one!)
  6. Go for bike rides with Aaron.
  7. Take our dogs on more walks.
  8. Continue to grow my relationship with Jesus.
  9. Visit all of our out-of-town friends. (There are so many of you now!!!)
  10. Try and travel a little less and be home a little more. (Major emphasis on “try”…this one will be hard for us…major wanderlusts over here!!)
  11. Drink: less alcohol, more tea.
  12. Learn more about budgeting, saving and being financially aware.

xoxo, madison naomi
